Portugal, 2016
Mom treats us both to a wonderful trip to Portugal!! First a couple of days in Lisbon, which we loved and saw a lot. Then we board our Viking Cruise boat, the Torgil and enjoy 7 days and nights along the Duero River. This is country known for its' port wines. We took bus trips away from the bus to visit beautiful cities, bakeries, vineyards, tasting rooms and lovely landscapes. The boat alone was such a treat. We had a stateroom on the second floor with a darling veranda where we sipped wine before dinner each night. On deck we watched our ship pass through a dozen locks, watching sections of the ship retract and the captain maneuver tight spots. We enjoyed meals with Brits and Aussies, even a 90th birthday party! Some deck side canasta, reading, runs for Kris, shopping, all good. We took an extension via bus to Santiago de Compestella. Here we stayed in a 5 star hotel and walked all over the city. I showed mom our favorite places from the Camino and of course we took in the Butafumerio!! A highlight:)
